Purpose of the Position:
The Summer Activity Staff are responsible to assist in the planning, delivery and supervision of day camp programs, pop-up programming in parks and trails, virtual programming and neighborhood challenges while ensuring compliance with provincial guidelines, HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and Procedures.
Responsible to: Recreation and Culture Coordinator, Child and Youth Coordinator
(The following sets out the principal functions of the position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements).
1.1 Provide input on development of Day Camp programs; organize and implement Day Camp programs and assist in the supervision of all activities.
1.2 Act as a group leader within assigned Day Camp groups, accountable to the Child and Youth Coordinator for all activities; ensuring the safety and participation of children.
1.3 Interact with all participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development.
1.4 Comply with the Child Guidance and Child Abuse Policies as outlined at staff training.
1.5 Advise the Child and Youth Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries and shall report any unacceptable behaviour to the Child and Youth Coordinator.
1.6 Assist with exploring, planning and implementation of virtual camps and programs such as: camp in a box, daily virtual games and activities.
1.7 Provide pop up programming in neighbourhood parks and trails ie. chalk art around town, games, rock painting and community engagement.
1.8 Plan, implement and evaluate neighbourhood/outdoor challenges and virtual programs for the community.
1.9 Implementation of provincial COVID guidelines such as: screening participants, contract tracing, cleaning, sterilization of equipment and high touch surfaces.
1.10 Support for contactless delivery of services of program supplies for virtual programs.
1.11 Assist with the promotion of programs, challenges and events
1.12 Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
1.13 Perform other duties as assigned by the Child and Youth Coordinator or designate.
2.0 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
2.1 High school diploma preferred.
2.2 Standard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED.
2.3 Experience working with all ages including children and youth.
2.4 HIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development.

3.1 Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
3.2 Valid and satisfactory “G” License with access to own vehicle considered an asset.
4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS:
4.1 Indoor and outdoor work environment.
4.2 Standing, sitting, running, jumping, dancing, bending etc. associated with active participation in sports, activities and games required.
Work Term: Approx. June - September
Compensation: $14.25 - 15.43/hour
