Description

The Recreation Program Coordinator shall assist the Manager, Community Recreation and Culture (“Manager”) and Supervisor, Recreation and Culture (“Supervisor) with the development, administration and supervision of the recreation programming for children, youth and adults including day camps, drop-in programs and recreation and cultural programs for all ages.

The position will be for approximately twelve (12) months, with an expected start date of August.

Compensation

$27.61 - $32.50 per hour

Key Qualifications

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience working with children and youth and program development, day camp management.
  • Two (2) or more years of Supervisory experience; experience in a recreation environment preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AED, standard first aid and CPR.
  • High Five: Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, with input from the Supervisor, short and long range plans and programs which meet the needs and interests of children, youth and adults leisure activities in the community.
  • Plan, organize, promote and implement the Day Camp Program schedules; and manage, oversee, evaluate and improve the day-to-day operations of the Day Camp Program with input from the Supervisor.
  • Manage and supervise operations of the Youth Centre and skate park including maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Assist the Supervisor with the design, implementation and monitoring of all training, encouraging growth and development of staff and specifically those who will take on leadership roles; provide supervision of all Day Camp staff and Volunteers; evaluate and provide guidance on performance of their duties.
  • Design, implement and monitor all day camp training, ensuring compliance with the Child Care Act, Northumberland Child Care Agreement, Parks and Recreation Ontario and Ontario Camps Association.
  • Ensure professional liaison and effective communication with individuals, children and youth organizations/groups, community services and agencies and work with Community Partners to identify and evaluate programs and activities which meet the needs of the populace and address gaps in service.
  • Complete the youth friendly application and ensure compliance with the criteria in maintaining a Platinum Youth Friendly Community.  Work with the Supervisor and Manager to establish partnerships and improve relations with stakeholders relating to services for children, youth and adults.
  • Office environment in Recreational Facility with frequent interruptions.
  • Limited travel to schools may be required.
  • Regular evening and weekend shifts are required.
