Description
The Director, Protective Services/Fire Chief is responsible for the economical, efficient and effective planning, administration, management and operation of fire prevention, suppression services and related fire and emergency programs for the community and the Building Services and Municipal Law Enforcement Departments.
Fulfill the role of Director of the Municipal Emergency Management Control Group (MECG) when the MECG is activated for municipal emergencies and/or all training initiatives. Furthermore, the Director/Fire Chief fulfills the role of Community Emergency Management Coordinator and coordinates all municipal departments, municipal operations and all other agencies required to assist the MECG in the event of an emergency. As CEMC, the Director/Fire Chief is the Chair of the Emergency Management Program Committee (EMPC) for the Municipality.
Qualifications:
- University degree in fire science, business management, public administration or equivalent.
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021 Level III, 1041 Level II, Fire Inspector Level I certification required, or willingness to obtain within 12 months of accepting the position as Fire Chief (International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and Pro board certification preferred). Certification in NFPA 1021 Level IV, 1031 Level II, 1033, 1521, 1072 an asset.
- Minimum ten (10) years firefighting experience plus minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Senior Officer with demonstrated progressive experience in a Supervisory capacity.
- Certification as a Community Emergency Management Coordinator (C.E.M.C.) or willingness to attain certification within six (6) months from the date of hire or a date which is mutually agreeable based on availability of the certification requirements.

- Position: Full-time, Premanent
- Hours: Thirty-five (35) hours per week
- Compensation: $118,642.10 to $139,686.32 per annum
- Benefits: Group Health, Dental and Life Insurance benefit coverage after three months of employment. OMERS Pension Plan enrolment as of date of hire.
